Captain Reyné O’ Shaughnessy has been a commercial airline pilot (Ret.) for over 34 years for a Fortune 50 company. She has logged more than 10,000 hours of heavy jet flight time on aircraft including the B727, B757/B767, Airbus 300/310, and was among the first women qualified to fly the B747. As a visionary leader, she is dedicated to advancing mental health in aviation and other high-demand professions, with a clear vision for improving well-being and resilience in these fields.

Our Vision

At the heart of our organization is a mission to empower the next generation of aviators in a holistic manner. We aim to support their physical, biological, and social well-being, ensuring they are equipped to achieve their full potential. Our approach transcends traditional boundaries, focusing not just on their professional aspirations but also on enhancing their quality of life beyond the cockpit.

Our Story

Founded in 2022 by Captain Reyne O’Shaughnessy, the Aviation Health and Wellbeing Institute quickly became a pivotal force in the aviation community. Originating with the vision of fostering new opportunities for aviation students—and a particular commitment to advancing women in the industry—our impact has already been felt both nationally and internationally.

Helping Each Other

Formed by aviation professionals for aviation professionals, our organization brings together volunteers from various roles within the industry. These individuals are not just familiar with the work but also live the aviation lifestyle, giving them unique insights into the sector’s specific challenges. Their firsthand experience allows them to provide tailored support to the aviation community

  • Seminars and Webinars: Educational events focused on professional growth, emotional resilience, stress management, and maintaining overall well-being.

Our Approach

We believe in a holistic approach that goes beyond professional aspirations. AHWI addresses not only the technical skills required for a career in aviation but also the mental, physical, and social aspects that ensure long-term success and personal fulfillment. Our approach includes:

  • Physical Health: Programs designed to maintain peak physical condition for the demands of aviation careers.

  • Emotional and Mental Well-being: Tools and resources to build emotional resilience, manage stress, and maintain mental health.

  • Community Building: We foster a community of like-minded aviation professionals who can support one another in both career and personal challenges.

Our Vision

Our vision is a future where every aspiring aviator has the support and resources they need to succeed not just as professionals but as well-rounded individuals. We aim to build a community that values well-being as much as technical expertise, creating leaders in the aviation industry who are healthy, resilient, and fulfilled in all aspects of life.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum
